The conservation fee is used to fund the national park’s protection, preservation, and maintenance. The cost is payable per day, per trekker, and for each day a trekker is present in the park. - Above the age of 16, the conservation fee is Tanzania Shillings 10,000 per person per day.
- Between the ages of 5 and 15, the conservation fee is 2000 Tanzania shillings per person per day.
- Below the age of 5, the conservation fee is free.
EXPATRIATES AND RESIDENTS
- Above the age of 16, conservation fees are U$35.
- Between the ages of 5 and 15, the conservation fee is U$10.

- RESCUE FEES
Kilimanjaro is a difficult mountain to scale. It can also be harmful. The Kilimanjaro National Park Authority will need to ensure your safety and comfort, and they are accountable for doing so. - HUT FEES
Some of the routes on Mount Kilimanjaro include huts, and you will need to spend the night there rather than in camps, so you will just need to pay for huts and not campsites because you will be spending the night at these huts. Mandara, Horombo, and Kibo huts are among the huts on Mount Kilimanjaro where you will be spending the night. - CRATER FEES
It’s a unique experience that comes at an additional cost. The crater camping price is only levied to hikers who wish to camp inside Kilimanjaro‘s crater, and this added adventure costs US $100 per person per night for both non-East African citizens and expatriates, whereas it just costs 10,000 Tanzanian shillings for East African inhabitants.
- GUIDE, RANGER, OR PORTER FEES
The National Park also charges an entrance fee for guides and porters. The cost is $2 per support crew member per trip. As this is usually spread across many hikers in a group, the cost is negligible.
- VAT (Value Added Tax)
In addition to these fees, the Tanzanian government imposed an 18 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) on all park fees in 2016.So, after you’ve calculated all of the costs based on the above description, you should add 18% VAT to the total cost.
