Guided Nature Walks in Uganda : Nature walks allow you to get close and personal with nature. The nature routes that are mentioned below are found in national parks or protected regions and outside of the protected areas are many nature paths on private and community properties. In the forest that aren’t featured here but might be incorporated in the itinerary depending on the personal interests.
PLACES TO VISIT FOR GUIDED NATURE WALKS
QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK
The national park is found in the western Uganda and provides nature hikes in various areas such as the kyambura gorge, mweya peninsular, katwe salt lake and swamp treks along Lake George. The stroll around Lake George beaches is looking for the semi-aquatic sitatunga’s antelope and the elusive shoebill. Katwe Salt Lake provides treks to experience traditional salt mining as well as kyambura gorge which is a home to primates such as chimpanzees, vervet monkeys and the red-tailed mangabey among others.
MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK
Nature hikes to the peak of Murchison falls are available following a trip on the Victoria Nile within the national park. You get off the boat and stroll up the hill taking in the landscape around the waterfalls. Other foot routes may be found in kaniyo pabidi and rabongo woods where you can spot birds, chimps as well as other primates.
KIBALE NATIONAL PARK
Kibale national park offers guided nature walks on hiking trails that are well maintained. Depending on your interest, the woodland trek or walk can last up to three hours or less. While in the forest, you will spot a number of primates, animals and bird species. BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK

Therefore, those interested in tree and shrub species have a fantastic time because there are many to choose from. Many of the paths take you to the waterfalls for stunning views.
KIDEPO VALLEY NATIONAL PARK
The guided nature walks within the national park allow tourists to get up close and personal with nature and animals. The walks take place near Apoka tourism center and the ranger guide leads you for a 1 -3hours. Tourists spot elephants, zebras and reedbucks among others.
LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK
Guided treks within Lake Mburo national park takes you to the salt lick, a wildlife hotspot with an observation platform. The rubanga forest includes paths that allow visitors to observe the many birds that live within. You can as well have a horse ride through the park or go cycling.
MGAHINGA FOREST NATIONAL PARK
The national park offers hiking in the slopes of virunga volcanoes. The excursion provides opportunities to see unusual bird species as well as breathtaking vistas of the surrounding lakes and rural communities. You will be walking through several types of natural flora as well as the bamboo forests.
MOUNT RWENZORI NATIONAL PARK
Hiking and woodland treks are available to tourists that come to mount rwenzori national park. The attraction of the Rwenzori lies not in the thrill of reaching the summit but in the ability to trek through the spectacular alpine landscape enhanced with equatorial snow and bizarre plants, with this in mind, shorter to smaller summits are becoming popular with park hikers. Along the kilembe route, famous hiking sites include 4627m mount Luigi da savoia which provides hikers with spectacular views of afro-pine flora, glaciers and patches of tropical snow. The Nyakalengiya trailhead provides a two day walk through the bamboo forest to the amazing lake Mahoma. The kazinga path gives hikers a day long trek of the north rwenzori ridge between fort portal plateau and bundibugyo town in the semliki valley on the western side of the mountain.
SEMULIKI NATIONAL PARK
Semuliki national park provides hikes to the male and female hot springs where you will see primate species such as black and white colobus monkeys, grey cheeked mangabeys and red-tailed monkeys among others. While on the nature walk, you will appreciate the richness of the forest with birds singing, butterflies as well as a number of tree and shrub species. The ability to cook eggs and plantains in the female hot spring is the highlight of the safari.
MOUNT ELGON NATIONAL PARK
Mount Elgon slopes provide nature walks with amazing views of the karamoja plains and settlements. Trails in the village frequently pass past the coffee plantations, banana plantations, gardens and grazing fields. You will be able to see the waterfalls including the sipi falls and sisili falls.
